Beautiful sunshine and then as soon as the 'tug' appears a rogue cloud ruins the shot. With a serious amount of retouching I've managed to rescue this photo and give the impression that the sunshine was shinning throughout. 60087 drags 70804, the Colas crane and 70810 through Wimbledon with the 6Z70 08.50 Rugby depot-Eastleigh wagon move.
Even though the forecast was for dull weather, you can't turn down a pair of 'grids' on the Great Western Main Line. Sounding in poor health, 56087&56105 struggle past Cholsey Manor Farm with the 6V62 11.20 Tilbury Riverside-Llanwern empty steel train.
Within a matter a weeks the impressive backdrop of the Didcot Power station Cooling Towers will be just a memory. 60044 sweeps past Milton Park with the 6B33 13.00 Theale-Robeston empty Murco oil tankers.
Within 12 months nearly everything will change at this location. The 'wires' will go up and the Power station will be just a distant memory. Sadly another location bites the dust. 56087 passes Milton Park with the 6V62 11.22 Tilbury Riverside-Llanwern Exchange Sidings empty steel train.
With the encroaching signs of electrification fast approaching, 70001 speeds past the beautiful wheat fields at Cholsey Manor farm with the 4O09 10.18 Trafford Park-Southampton Maritime Freightliner working
Given the unprintable weather forecast I thought it be a great day to explore some different angles and views of the GWML. This series of photographs were taken from Landon Chase high above Streatley. Here 43163 leads a morning Plymouth-Paddington service past the encroaching masts close to Goring
This type of shot and this location would probably work better in low winter light and with the trees free of leaves. Misty, summer light isn't idea, however its always good to try something different. 56105&56113 approach Goring and Streatley with the 6V62 11.20 Tilbury Riverside-Llanwern empty steel train.
Given my last statement this location probably works best in the summer months when the fields are full of wheat and add definition to the landscape. The unmistakable due of 56105&56113 head past Goring with 6V62. All the photographs in this series were taken with a Canon 300 F4 Lens
Considering the stunning countryside in Cornwall this certainly isn't the most beautiful location, but with Cornwall about to lose its semaphore signals it could become one of the more relevant locations for railway photography. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' passes through Truro with the 5E75 10.15 Penzance T&RSMD-Par ECS
Unless you're a 'peak basher' this photo won't mean anything to you. However this was my view of the railways of Britain as a teenager, right behind a peak on a summers day somewhere in the west-country!
45149 recreates my youth as it heads towards Cheltenham racecourse during the 2014 G&WR diesel Gala.
Full summer sun is never the best time to undertake railway photography, but can you turn down the opportunity to photograph a Colas 'grid' on the GWML in full sun? 56113 thunders past Ruscombe with 11.22 6V62 Tilbury Riverside-Llanwern empty steel working.
